My Story of Continuing Tradition
Franci Wilkinson
Wife • Mother • Baker
Hi there! I’m a proud third-generation Basque-American, a mother of three energetic boys, and the heart behind Etxea Bakery. My love for baking began at 11 in Elko, NV, during the county fair, where I entered my Sheepherders bread in 4-H and unexpectedly won the grand champion ribbon—sparking a lifelong passion.
Baking has been a constant in my life, from my first job at 17 to family gatherings and now sharing my creations with you. My recipes are deeply rooted in my heritage, passed down from my dad’s mother and brought to life with the guidance of my mom.
My grandparents, Amuma and Aitxitxe, are my greatest inspiration and I can picture them lovingly making meals from scratch. Their story—six years apart while Aitxitxe herded sheep in Nevada and Amuma held down the home in the Basque Country—is a testament to resilience, hard work and family.
For me, baking is more than making bread; it’s about honoring those before us, preserving culture, and nourishing both body and soul. Working from home lets me stay close to my family while sharing a piece of my heritage with my community.
Here’s to homemade meals, the lessons of history, and the connections that matter most. I hope Etxea Bakery inspires you to rediscover your roots and savor the joy of tradition.
